Barangay Ginebra is looking to add a pair of athletic wings to its frontcourt, and pending PBA
Commissioner Chito Salud’s approval, the Kings are going to be ready for liftoff.
In a trade proposal received by the Commissioner’s office at 2:30 pm Tuesday, the Kings are trying
to get athletic forwards Rico Maierhofer from B-Meg and Allein Maliksi from Barako Bull in exchange
for center Yancy de Ocampo, combo guard Jimbo Aquino and the Kings’ 2014 and 2015 second round
Under league rules sister teams are disallowed to directly trade players, thus the need for a third
team to act as conduit. In the proposed scenario, the Kings would trade de Ocampo for Barako’s
Maliksi. Barako would then trade de Ocampo to B-Meg for Maierhofer. And finally Barako would then
trade Maierhofer to the Kings for Aquino and the two second round draft picks.
The Commissioner’s Office will deliberate on the trade proposal and make a decision by Wednesday
or Thursday. Commissioner Salud reserves the right to revise certain provisions in the deal he sees

3.4 rebounds in seven games played since coming back from injury, as well as hustle plays for the
Ginebra head coach Siot Tanquincen, for his part, is waiting patiently. The Kings have been on an
up-and-down streak in the Philippine Cup recently, and he hopes the addition of the two promising
forwards will energize Barangay Ginebra’s campaign.
“We’re hoping for the best, as I’ve said before we need to get younger. We will lose size
inside by giving up Yancy but getting Rico and Allein will give us versatility and flexibility when
shuffling players” said the fiery Ginebra mentor.
Should the trade proposal be approved, Tanquincen plans to play the inaugural D-League MVP Maliksi
as a shooting guard and small forward to complement franchise player Mark Caguioa and explosive
athlete JC Intal at the wings, while Maierhofer would be utilized at forward to fortify their
defense in the paint.
But if the request is denied, Tanquincen still promises the Ginebra faithful that the Kings will
“Ano man ang mangyari, we will still compete. We will still do our best.” (JVelasquez)
