Meralco Bolts survived Rain or Shine’s run in the second half to notch their third straight victory and the solo lead in the standings, behind a monster game of Onuaku with 31 points and 27 rebounds.
Meralco Bolts was waxing hot in the first half showing their brillance at both end of the court. Outscoring Rain or Shine Elasto Painters bench, 32-21. Jared Dillinger of the Meralco Bolts leads the local scoring, who was on fire in the second quarter with 10 points. Meralco Bolts lead by 25 points coming into the half.
Coming out of the half time, Rain or shine import, Wayne Chism got injured early in the third quarter and needed to be taken out of the court. He did not return to the game and Rain or Shine was forced to play All Filipino.
However, even without their import. The Painters made a big run with Ahanmisi and Quinahan leading the way for the Painters. Ahanmisi drain three straight threes, and Rain or Shine made 6 three pointers in the quarter compared to none by the Meralco Bolts. The Painters was able to tie the game at the end of the quarter.
Fourth quarter was a close one, with Meralco Bolts leading most of the quarter. In the dying minutes of the quarter, 2:12. Merlaco Bolts is leading by a point only. But Caram burried a long jumer giving the Bolts a three point lead. Rain or Shine, big man was able to fish a foul on Onuako. But he only sinked 1 out of 2 shot.
On the next possesion, Onuako powered his way over Belga to gave Meralco a 97-93 lead. But, Quinahan was quick to response in the other end and cut down the deficit to two, 95-93. Meralco was not able to capitalize in their possesion, which resulted into a looseball in favor of the Painters. With only 12 seconds left to play, Quinahan take a three point shot, but it was short. Dillinger grabbed the rebound and Jericho cruz fouled him. Dillinger split his charity, giving another room for Rain or Shine to the tie the game. However, Quinahan shot was contested and Meralco Bolts escaped with a 95-98 victory.
