Merlaco Bolts outlasted Phoenix Fuel Masters to stay unbeaten in the Commissioner’s cup of Philippine Baskeball Association.
The Bolts used a balanced offense to continue their surprise run in the conference. Meralco Bolt’s import, Arinze Onuaku, led the way for the Bolts with 17 points and grabbing 18 boards. He got some good support from the locals too, with rookie, Chris Newsome chipping in 16 points and Gilas guard, Garry David contributing 13 points.
Fuel Masters was leading 12 points at the first half, behind their hot shooting from downtown, who is led by RR Garcia. But, Meralco Bolts fight to erase the 12 point deficit after halftime.
It was a tight game afterwards, with both team answering each others basket. Kelly Nabong sank in a put back to give Meralco Bolts the lead 79-69. With the game tied at 86 with 45.5 seconds left. Jared Dillinger buried a trey to give the Bolts the lead, 89-86.
Phoenix Fuel Master got their chance to tie the game with two seconds left. However, Josh Urbiztondo’s three was contested and blocked by Onuaku. The fuel Masters was lead by RR Garcia who finished with 15 points. 11 came from the first quarter.
