It took three overtimes to finish the job for San Miguel Beermen, overcoming Thorton’s huge 69 points performance, 131-127.
The Beermen controlled majority in the regulation, just when they thought they had the upper hand, NLEX Road Warriors made a rally to bring the game closer. With all scored tied and few seconds left, Thorton made an impossible three point shot to send the game to overtime.
The first Overtime was a see-saw match and both teams failed to seal it in the first extra period. The second overtime is the same, still both squad refuses to give up and answers each of the opponent’s basket.
NLEX, had the chance to seal the game in the second overtime, but Al Thorton’s dunk did not count, and the game was sent to third overtime. Thorton was hesitant to throw the ball up in the air because Junmar was there, and might block his shot. Sadly, his dunk did not make it in time, with a difference of split seconds only.
On the third overtime, San Miguel Beermen relied to the MVP Junmar Fajardo to deliver some goods. They took the early upper hand and never looked back. Although, NLEX made the game close, but there wasn’t enough gas for them to grab the victory.
Al Throton had a monster performance, with 69 points and 19 rebounds. Sean Anthony backed up Thorton’s performance with his own 24 points and 18 boards, while San Miguel Beermen was led by Tyler Wilkerson with 58 points and 13 rebounds. Cabagnot and Fajardo delivered the goods for the Beermen two. Alex, contributed 20 points and dished out 11 assists, while Fajardo chipped in 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.
