Meralco Bolts strong start might come as a surprise to anyone, as they were the first team to be eliminated last conference. In fact, they only won one game last conference.
That one game and early exit is all they need to get back on the track. Meralco Bolts used it as a motivation and worked harder in the off season. Since they were the first team to be eliminated, they had more time to practice and to work things out.
In an interview by Interakson.com, Jimmy Alapag said “When you finished 1-10, it humbles you, as an individual and as a team. It goes to show you’ve got work to do. The great part of our extended season is that guys really refocused on coming back this conference and playing better. It showed during practice and we’ve done a better job bringing what we’ve been doing on practice during our games,”
Chemistry played a greater part on their team’s success. It was evident on their first four games, which they’ve all won. They played a lot of exhibition game in the off-season that solidifies the trust and teamwork of each player.
With seven new players on the rooster, the team was having issues adjusting last conference. But because they have more time after last conference, Meralco Bolts took that opportunity to know each other. The Bolts practically “Lived in the Gym” said Jared Dillinger, who is one of the reasons why the Bolts are on top now. Dillinger is one of the steady gunners of the Bolts, and earned himself the Player of the week award, after its strong start.
As to when will this strong start ends? No one knows. As long as Meralco Bolts, play the same intensity, team work and mentality. Then, who knows? They might even end up at this conference Finals.
