For the past weeks, there has been PBA trade rumors. There were a lot of protagonists in this one but perhaps the most glaring was the rumor about Alaska and Ginebra trading players.
The names of Sonny Thoss, Enrico Villanueva and JC Intal are the leading names abuzz and today through Twitter, Atty. Noli Eala made a big tweet that is slowly rocking the boat as far as potential PBA trades are concerned.
And third, one big trade FINALLY done. Start of “rebuilding” and “fitting the pieces of the puzzle”. – Via @NoliEala on Twitter.
At first, guesses were that the trade would involved star Mark Caguioa who had openly bared his frustrations after the Kings rough and tumble outings of late.
But then comes another revelation, this time through Facebook. A thread on the PBA on AKTV Facebook account by a certain Xurbol Kuyawo added more color to the rumors afloat:
Yes it’s confirmed: S. Thoss, M. Baracael and N. Baclao for BGK. Petron got J. Aquino and M. Cortez. Alaska got E. Villanueva, JC. Intal and R. Guevarra. Kinopya ko lang sa Alaska forum daw galing. – R. galing kay @Sonny Lanorias
All these are unofficial of course and have yet to reach the PBA Commissioner’s Office. However, you can imagine the reaction coming from the fans of the respective teams.
Pretty much vocal was that of course of the Petron side which stands to get smaller should Noy Baclao and Rey Guevarra part the team.
However, it does justify the long-awaited reunion between Jimbo Aquino and Ato Agustin. Aquino was a key player for Agustin at San Sebastian when the Stags won the NCAA championship in 2009.
It is also a homecoming of sorts for Mike Cortez, having played for Petron (then carrying the San Miguel name) back in 2008-09.
For Ginebra, they stand to fill the big void of a reliable center. The center position stands to be a missing link to probably help the King’s cause.
The Kings would get a no nonsense player in rookie Mac Barracael while improving their frontline with the addition of last year’s top rookie pick Noy Baclao
As far as Alaska is concerned, the supposed trade would confirm all speculations that new coach Joel Banal wanted to reunite the former Ateneo Blue Eagles on his end.
The Aces also stand to get another high-flyer in Rey Guevarra who showcased perhaps one of his best games in the PBA when the Boosters demolished the Shopinas.com Clickers the last time around.
Assuming that these rumors are true while also barring any changes, Ginebra stands to be the big winner here with Petron the biggest loser.
Then again, these are the hot topics roaming around folks. They remain unofficial. Fans are pretty much in a frenzy on which is which so until we see Commissioner Salud approving and announcing the said trade, you can hold on to the thought for now.
