Talk N Text Tropang Texters eyes for a series sweep against Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in their All Filipino Cup Championship Series.
Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters eyes a historic third straight All-Filipino crown as it goes for a sweep against Rain or Shine in Game Four of the 2013 PBA Philippine Cup finals on Wednesday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
The Tropang Texters try to achieve the unprecedented feat in their 6:45 p.m. encounter as they hold a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-seven championship series going into the game.
“We will definitely go for it,” said Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters mentor Norman Black, who is now on the threshold of getting his 11th PBA crown.
Black is also looking for his first sweep win in the finals while Rain or Shine mentor Yeng Guiao has not been swept in his 11 finals appearances.
The last finals sweep happened in 2009-10 Philippine Cup when Ryan Gregorio’s Purefoods squad, now San Mig Coffee, swept Tim Cone’s Alaska in the best-of-seven showdown.
The Tropang Texters took a commanding three-nil lead in the series following an 89-80 victory in Game Three last Sunday.
Jimmy Alapag and Jayson Castro hit clutch three-pointers in that game that thwarted the run of Rain or Shine, which fell for the third straight time in the series.
Still, Guiao believes that his game plan is the right one and they just need to hit their outside chance to have a better chance in Game Four.
“I don’t think there will be many major changes in terms of game plan. We’re not just really making our shots,” said Guiao. “We’ll just to delay their party of celebration.”
Rain or Shine’s perimeter game has been missing in the series particularly Jeff Chan, who is just averaging 8.3 points in the finals.
Meanwhile, the PBA awards the Best Player of the Conference prior the game. The top candidates are Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva and Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters teammates Jayson Castro and Ranidel de Ocampo.
