It was not All soul’s day yet but Rain or Shine Elasto Painters just burried Meralco Bolts alive with an outstanishing victory 139-95.
When it rains, it pours. This is just what the Elasto Painters did on their Sunday match with Meralco Bolts. Rain or Shine poured in a PBA all-time record and four new franchise marks.
Rain or Shine set a new league record for most converted three point shots in a single game. They (Rain or Shine) knocked down 22 three point shots to set ta new record for PBA since the three point distance was change to 22 feet.
Previous records was established by Talk ‘N Text for recording 23 three points shot converted back when the three point distance was 20. 5 feet. The Tropang Texters did it twice 2007-08 and 2008-09.
Adding insult to injury, the Elasto Painters set a franchise record for themselves, recording their biggest margin of victory, highest total score of a single match and the best field-goal percentage.
The Painters did most of the damage in the first half setting another PBA record for 13 three point shots converted in the first half, and that dictated the outcome of the ball game.
It was just a massacre in the making, every player fielded in by Rain or Shine Coach, Yeng Guiao contributed well.
Ronjay Buenafe scored 15 of his 24 points in the pivotal second quarter run. Sensational rookie, Paul Lee had another brilliant night contributing 19 points, pulling down 7 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.
Coach Yeng Guiao did not expect the outcome of the match, he was expecting Bolts to be on a roll after coming from two straight victories.
“I haven’t seen a game like this in a long time,” said Coach Yeng Guiao . “The whole team was in a zone and I didn’t expect this from the start. Nagulat kami. Kahit kami hindi namin akalain.” added Guiao.
Jeff Chan chipped in 20 points for the painters and Beau Belga added 14 points on 4-of-4 shooting from long distance. Jervy Cruz and Ronnie Matias also contributed 10 points, while Gabe Norward had 7 points and 9 assists.
The Painters biggest margin was 45 points (101-56). The team made 53 of their 80 attempts from the floor for a franchise record of an impressive 66 percent field goal.
Cardona led the way for the Bolts with his 25 points, Nerlbert Omolon added 13 points, and Sol Mercado finished with 12 points for the Bolts,
Previously, Coach Ryan Gregorio of Meralco Bolts, praised his team of how his team vastly improved on their defense.
But that Bolt’s defense is not evident on their game against Rain or Shine. They just could not find which player to defend and could not even crash the boards.
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters scored at least 33 points in each quarter.
The Painters improved their standings to 5-1, grabbing the solo lead. While the Bolts dropped to a 4-3 win-loss record.
