Erase Plantcenta joined in the bid for a quarterfinal spot after defeating Boracay Rum, 69-66, last Tuesday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Allan Mangahas had 18 points to lift Erase Plantcenta to victory improving their record to 3-4 and set up a joust for the last quarterfinal berth with Café France.
Mangahas came up big in the final quarter drilling a triple with three minutes in the game ending a 5-0 Boracay Rum run, 63-57.
The former Mapua point guard also converted two free throws with 39.1 seconds to play in the game after Boracay Rum closed in at 65-63.
Mangahas’ effort nearly came to waste when Stephen Siruma earned a trip to the free throw line with 8.4 seconds left and Boracay down by two points, 67-65.
Siruma missed his second free throw but Maclean Sabellina was able to collar the offensive rebound. Sabellina, however, missed from point blank range and Marlon Gomez grabbed the rebound and was fouled in the process.
Gomez nailed two free throws to seal the win and settle the final tally of the game.
Macky Acosta added 11 points while Gomez and Mark Sarangay grabbed 10 rebounds each for the Erasers.
In the second game, Cebuana Lhuillier thrashed Junior Powerade, 90-64, to remain in the hunt for the final outright semifinal seat.
Vic Manuel and Lester Alvarez had a field day against the Tigers to lift the Gems to a 6-2 win-loss slate for second place in the standings.
Manuel had a game-high 30 points while Alvarez fired five triples including four straight three-pointers in the third period for 15 points as the Gems routed the Tigers.
The Gems are in a neck-and-neck race with Big Chill for the right to gain the outright semifinals berth. Big Chill has a 5-2 record but a tie after the eliminations will give the slot to the Superchargers via the winner-over-the-other rule.
