Talk ‘N Text guard Jayson Castro was named Best Player of the Conference of the Philippine Cup in an awarding ceremony held at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum before Game Four of the best-of-seven finals between the Tropang Texters and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Jayson Castro, nicknamed ‘The Blur’, garnered a combined 1,146 points from statistical points (SPs), media votes, player votes and votes from the PBA to win the award.
He beat out teammate Ranidel De Ocampo, Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva, Solomon Mercado of Meralco and Petron Blaze’s Arwind Santos.
The 5-foot-10 guard posted averages of 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists from the elimination round through to the semifinals of this conference.
He raised his scoring up to 18.7 points per game in Talk ‘N Text’s three wins in the PBA finals and is looming as a candidate for the finals MVP award as well.
